Hardwood over hardwood
Jake, I have just bought a home with hardwood floors in the foyer and dining room, which I want to replace. There is laminate in the kitchen. I would like to install bamboo hardwoods throughout these rooms. Can I lay the new hardwoods over the existing hardwoods and laminate or do I need to remove them? I\'m trying to make this project as simple as possible, so I thought the thin pergo wood planks might be the way to go. What do you think? By the way, what do you think we should do about Iraq? (smile) Thanks for your help. Angel
Angel,
It sounds like you are actually going to install a laminate floor(Perg0). If that is the case, I would recommend that you remove the existing floor down to a suitable sub floor. A suitable sub floor for laminate would be a smooth plywood free from voids or raised spots and is well fastened to the joists. Hardwoods have a tendency to move as the temperature and humidity levels change in your home. You don't want too much movement below the laminate flooring. As far as Iraq goes, I won't comment on that. Thanks for visiting our web site.
