Another sticky question
Jake
how do you remove glue when you remove self stick floor tiles over an existing floor before you add new ones? lorraine
Lorraine
Removing the existing glue can be very, very difficult, since it was never really intended to be removed in the first place. There are some solvents on the market, but you must be very careful since some of these are toxic and flammable. A store that specializes in flooring, like carpet and vinyl, would be a good place to get started. The last time we did a glue removal, I was very concerned about it and would not try it again. What you may try is to install a 1/4" underlayment over the existing floor. This will save you time by not removing the existing floor and it will be much safer. You may be able to install your new floor right over the existing floor, if the existing floor is in good shape and the new floor is compatible with the existing. Good luck and good remodeling to you.
